CHEMICAL CONTROL MEASURES: TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS These specifications are applicable for all types of structures with R.C.C. foundations or with load bearing walled foundations. The principle of the treatment is to create a chemical barrier below and around the building so as to deny entry to termites into the building. STAGE – 1: Treatment to the internal wall and floor junctionsHoles of 12-mm diameter, 4 – 5 inch deep and 30 cms apart will be drilled along the inner junction of wall and floor in the entire premises. The termiticide emulsion will be injected under pressure into these holes to create a chemical barrier against termites. Drilling will not be carried out in the entire basement, if the building has a basement structure as the waterproofing layer gets damaged. Only soaking spray to walls, cracks & crevices is provided in the basement. Drilling will not be provided in the entire terrace as it will again rupture the water proofing layer on the terrace. The drilling treatment will be carried out 1 ft above the wall & floor junctions in the toilet & bathrooms to prevent damage to the waterproofing layer in these areas. Soaking spray will be provided to the lift pit as drilling will rupture the water proofing layer in lift pit. The walls having the main electric cables installed on it will not be drilled from safety point of view and to avoid any damage to the electric cables. An oil based spray will be applied as a spot treatment to the termite infested areas at this location. STAGE – 2: Treatment to soil under floorIf the cracks are noticed on the ground floor only because of construction joints, expansion joints or shrinkage, the soil below floor needs to be treated. Holes of 12 mm dia, 1’ deep, 30 cms apart will be drilled along the cracks in floor only and chemical emulsion will be injected. STAGE – 3: Treatment to wooden fixturesHoles of 12 mm dia will be drilled at the junction of base of wooden items and the floor such as door frames, window frames and termiticide emulsion will be injected. This treatment will be done on all floors (except basement/terrace to avoid damage to the waterproofing layer). An oil based termiticide will be sprayed on all the wood work / wooden furniture infested by termites within the premises. STAGE – 4: Treatment to termite tubesVisible & accessible shelter mud tubes will be treated with termiticide emulsion and removed. STAGE – 5: Treatment along the external perimeter of the buildingTrenching / Rodding in the absence of apron around the external perimeter of the building or drilling holes along the external walls of the building (similar to Stage – 1 Specification) will be carried out to create a chemical barrier around the building. FREQUENCY: The initial major treatment will be executed as above. 9 inspection visits shall be carried out thereafter at half yearly interval after the initial major service to keep a check on the termite resurgence, if any.
